Vail Resorts is always looking for great talent. Although our resorts and offices are currently closed to protect the health and safety of our employees and our guests, we are excited to welcome applications for the position of Executive Chef at Whistler Blackcomb, with an intended start date of September 2020.

Job Summary

Whistler Blackcomb Food and Beverage Division operates 18 outlets across 13 different locations including quick-service, full service and bar locations. The Executive Chef is ultimately responsible for all aspects of the Culinary Leadership Team and Career Development including but not limited to; back-of-house operational and service standards, Whistler Blackcomb menu, product and concept development, and supplier agreements and relationships

The Executive Chef requires a background in high volume multi-concept food service at the Executive Chef level and strong experience in the following areas: highly developed culinary creativity, strong grasp of casual dining operational capabilities, financial acumen, and project management expertise, facility and menu prototype development, extensive network of vendor-supplier R&D relationships, a record of strong F&B standards development, highly developed leadership and coaching skills, and a comfort-level with our consumer-driven process.

Job Responsibilities

Employee and Food Safety:

  • Drive WB safety culture, leads the implementation of all safety and food safety standard operating plans (SOP’s)
  • Lead all F&B incidents investigations and implements preventive action plans and SOP’s
  • Maintain a strong relationship with all local/regional/national agencies to exceed all safety requirements
  • Champion safety and sanitation policies implemented due to health emergencies, and ensure procedural compliance as dictated by Vail Resorts Health and Safety and Vancouver Coastal Health


  • Maintain a high level of visibility and influence on the front line with guests, employees, and management
  • Coach, direct and develop direct and indirect reports through individual development plans, and support performance management and succession planning principles
  • Demonstrate leadership through Vail Resorts Values and maturity consistent with a high level culinary professional
  • Lead the Food and Beverage Management team in tandem with the F&B Senior Managers and Vice – President

Ideation & Concept Implementation

  • Lead the selection of high-potential concepts based on corporate strategic direction for menus, food stations and restaurants, for new and existing products/facilities
  • Plan and execute menu and delivery process development designed to advance on-trend F&B concept changes
  • Build menu, preparation, recipe and delivery process materials that are scalable and reflect industry best practices

Operational Handoff

  • Prepare appropriate documentation and materials to ensure a seamless transition from research & development to operations in collaboration with Vail Resorts Chefs Alliance and local F&B operations teams to deliver consistent quality
  • Liaise with Vail Resorts procurement team to drive alignment on all contracted items and suppliers
  • Work with F&B Teams at Whistler Blackcomb to ensure successful implementation in the field, and feasibility across the network

Corporate Leadership

  • Represent WB at the Vail Resorts Chef Alliance; actively engages in the conversation and delivers on project deliverables
  • Partner with Marketing as spokesperson for Whistler Blackcomb’s Food and Beverage brand
  • Lead the community involvement of the F&B division by participating in local food events
  • Demonstrate Food and Beverage divisional leadership of the Vail Resorts Commitment to Zero environmental strategy

Job Requirements

  • Degree from an accredited culinary institute
  • 10 years’ experience in a culinary product development role, from ideation to full concept deployment and implementation
  • Experience leading a group of direct reports: high level of emotional intelligence, career development, performance management, and leading corporate values
  • Experience with the operational, financial and logistical parameters of similarly diverse and large scale menus and operations
  • Prior experience with vendor R&D resources

Technical Skills Required:

  • Culinary expertise: theoretical understanding and practical application of culinary principles
  • Operations Experience: is familiar and comfortable with the level of operational talent and capabilities - QSR to fine dining
  • Financial Acumen: has well-developed experience in food costing and estimating proforma recipe costs
  • Consumer Driven Process: embraces consumer feedback as key milestones in process
  • Project Management Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • Team Development: has a track record of strong team development and documented individual succession planning
  • Leading People: Builds relationships while driving performance
