The Resort Application Development (RAD) Team at Vail Resorts is seeking a Software Developer Intern to join our team for the 2020 summer. Reporting directly to the Software Development Manager, this intern will be an active member on one of our three project delivery teams working collaboratively with other software developers, business analysts, test engineers, a scrum master, and a project manager. The team uses Agile with Scrum. Working in C# and the .NET Framework, RESTful APIs, with the possibility of some work with HTML/CSS/JavaScript (Angular), the internship will encompass working on one of our on mountain applications, delivering new functionality or extensions to existing. The intern will be developing within our developer tool set; Visual Studio, MS Teams, confluence, JIRA, BitBucket, Octopus, and Bamboo.

Role Specific Skills Requirements (Major, Technical Skills/Experience, Certification, etc.):

  • College student with a minimum of 2 years completed towards a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with C# and the .NET Framework.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with SQL Server.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Highly enthusiastic and motivated learner.

Project Code/Funding Available

The intern will be assigned to development work on whichever capital project our Team Alpine sub-team is working on this coming summer. Final capital project approvals and timelines are still pending, but we know based on preliminary approvals that we will have a project and the budget to support the intern.

The intern will become a working part of one of our three project delivery teams, no different than any of our other 15+ software developers. The intern will be part of a team working on a capital funded and approved project and assigned user stories or defect fixes requiring code development delivery. The intern will have a direct impact on the project, delivering software changes that ultimately make up the larger project deliverable. The team will receive an additional contributing team member, youthful exuberance and energy, and an opportunity to recruit and lay the foundation for a possible future employee hire. The team has a history of successfully staffing interns as well as hiring a subset for permanent employment.

The intern will get an opportunity to experience software development as part of team of other developers as well as business analysts, test engineers, a scrum master, and project manager. They will have direct access to a developer lead and software development manager and experience firsthand working with that team to deliver functionality that will be used at Vail Resorts in support of our mountain operations.
