Job Summary:

The Revenue Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the proper recording and reporting of revenue transactions and adjustments for the Mountain segment and will report to the Senior Manager of Revenue Accounting. Additionally, this role will be an integral part of the month end, quarter-end and year-end close processes. The position oversees the department responsible for daily ledger and revenue recognition in our point of sale system and will determine and review monthly reconciliations and journal entries on various complex deferred revenue accounts. They will also be heavily involved with our pass partnerships, and will play a large role in revenue product set-up review, and will be counted on to learn processes around critical management reporting. A proven ability to lead and strong systems skills are essential as the revenue accounting function operates in numerous point of sale systems throughout the organization. Additionally, this individual must ensure departmental compliance in a SOX environment and be able to fully understand the risks and controls within the department. These responsibilities will involve constant communication between our key stakeholders including Finance, Marketing, and other groups within the Accounting organization to ensure accurate revenue recognition. The ideal candidate is a motivated individual and a self-starter who can identify opportunities, propose solutions, identify process improvements and see them through to completion.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Actively guide, coach and develop direct report(s) while providing leadership, training, and support with the goal of optimizing departmental performance.
  • Analyze, review, and prepare complex balance sheet reconciliations, including accounts impacted by foreign currency
  • Identify, and research potential reporting issues and be able to complete manual journal entries and other adjustments to fix those issues, which includes the reconciliation of important data between multiple source systems
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and US GAAP compliance
  • Assist with review of revenue product set-up prior to summer and winter seasons to understand and ensure accurate product set-up and revenue recognition in revenue source systems
  • Assist with reconciling differences between the GL and management reporting, and identify and record adjustments as necessary
  • Utilize and create system reports to improve processes
  • Rotating ownership in various areas of revenue accounting to eventually gain experience across all aspects and accomplish cross-training amongst the team. Areas include, but are not limited to, the below:
  • Analyze and provide insight on deferred season pass revenue to ensure accurate and timely reporting of the financials, including partnering with the Finance and Marketing teams to budget and forecast season pass revenue
  • Biweekly reconciliation of season pass sales with Marketing team
  • Manage relationships and exceptions for multiple pass partnerships, and establish a process for new pass partnerships. Calculate and record revenue recognition journal entries and ensure proper accounting and timely payment for each season pass partnership
  • Analyze data and provide informed conclusions around each pass partnership including forecasting monthly and full season financial impact, providing guidance on revenue recognition timing, and providing insight into actual to forecast variances
  • Calculate and record revenue recognition journal entries and ensure proper accounting for our resort ski clubs
  • Responsible for the calculation and coordination of our publicly released ski metrics data throughout the ski season
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum 3-5 Years Accounting Experience
  • Minimum 1 Year of Supervisory Experience
  • Ability to read and understand complex agreements
  • Proficient in MS Office applications
  • Proficient in reporting software and tools
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization skills
  • Be able to identify problems and provide solutions
  • Positive attitude
  • Motivated, self-starter who can complete tasks independently
  • Must embrace and be adaptable to a fast paced and changing environment and prioritized tasks
  • CPA preferred
  • Experience in RPOS, Peoplesoft,and nVision a plus
